I took some time off work to attend the Magic Grand Prix in Los Angeles last weekend.
I brought a bunch of cards to trade and sell and spent most of the day moving between the various booths looking for the best prices. However, I did manage to find some time between shopping to play Legacy. Although I didn't score well, I seriously enjoyed the format because of the high degree of concentration it requires. I scored 1-2-1, outside of contention for the prize money.
I ran the following U/W Miracles list, which I basically stole from Joe Bernal (his list can be found here http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=72572)
4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
4 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Counterbalance
4 Brainstorm
3 Counterspell
4 Force of Will
4 Swords to Plowshares
2 Council's Judgment
2 Entreat the Angels
1 Supreme Verdict
4 Terminus
6 Island
1 Mountain
2 Plains
2 Arid Mesa
4 Scalding Tarn
4 Flooded Strand
2 Tundra
1 Volcanic Island
2 Karakas
Sideboard:
2 Pithing Needle
3 Blood Moon
1 Flusterstorm
2 Mindbreak Trap
3 Red Elemental Blast
3 Vendilion Clique
1 Supreme Verdict
This was a very grindy deck and rounds often went to time control. The critical moment of the tournament came in round 3, when I lost to my own carelessness: I played a Karakas on turn 3 and resolved a Blood Moon with a fetchland in hand. I should have first played the fetch, retrieved an Island, and then resolved the Blood Moon so that I could cast the remaining cards in my hand. Live and learn.
Despite this somewhat annoying loss, I would recommend UW Miracles to anyone who enjoys playing a control deck.
